The backbone of the
plot of Bertolt Brecht's play, The
Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, was
originally to lampoon Hitler. It reminds
the audience not to let history repeat
itself. The theme is closely related to
making social reforms and changes.
Our guest speaker of
this seminar, Mr. Augustine Mok, has
been on front line of many social
movements and currently trying to make
changes utilizing art. According to him,
Art is one of the foremost means to make
changes in society.
The seminar will be
moderated by Mr. Chan Chu-hei. The
discussion will revolve around the role
of art in modern society, and especially
that of Hong Kong. How does current
situation in Hong Kong compare to the
times of Arturo Ui? How can history give
guidance to and illuminate us who live
in the modern world?
