The workshops of Theatre Horizon's 'New Directors' Movement' Series have been very attractive. This time, we have the 'Performing Brecht' Workshop in which we invited a director from Germany to talk about creating theatre utilizing some of Brecht's ideas in modern Germany. And then we have the super physical performer, Makoto Matsushima to further explore his ideas of Funktionen in creating movement.

Theatre Horizon's The Century-old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour Trilogy which started in 2014 has now come to its last episode "The Awakening." This episode will run from 21 February to 2 March for 10 shows. If you are wondering how Luting survives in an ever-changing surroundings such as ours, please do not miss this episode! Only a hundred tickets will be sold for each show. Reserve in advance!

Voice master, Jean-René Toussaint, will be travelling to Hong Kong the third time to give his wonderful Primitive Voice workshop. Voice workshops for theatre professionals are a rarity and the theatre community knew it. Before long, the workshop was already full.


July is a month in which Theatre Horizon is the filled with Sunshine (Soleil) from France!  From 13th July, we have  Shaghayegh Beheshti, actor from Le Théâtre du Soleil to lead a 12-session workshop, Personal Memory & Historical Memory for which we received many applications. From 24th to 28th July, actors and teachers from Le Théâtre du Soleil, Sebastien Brottet-Michel and Fok Man-wai are holding an afternoon workshop. In the evening we have the music legend Jean-Jacques Lemetre, former musical director of Le Théâtre du Soleil to give his workshop. This kind of opportunity is out of the ordinary. Theatre professionals should not miss any of this!

Congratulations to Lau Chun-him who just won the 9th Hong Kong Theatre Libre. Owing to work obligations, he was not able to show up at the ceremony. He was presented the trophy by Chan Chu-hei, Theatre Horizon's Artistic Director in the most ceremonious way the next day.

Ming Pao | British playwright Christopher Marlowe wrote this classic of The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus which was performed many times all over the world. Theatre Horizon launched her 'New Directors' Movement,'  featuring new director, Chow Wai Chuen, to restage this classic. How would he do it and will it speak to the modern audience?


Spanning two years from 2017 to 2018, the 'New Directors' Movement' of Theatre Horizon will take place. During this time, four new aspiring directors will work with a classic text each to stage it in a proper theatre. Inaugurating the series, we have Faustus. Come to support us!


Super Physical Workshop with Makoto Matsushima is the second World Theatre Workshop of the New Director's Movement. It is designed for actors and performers who like to think. The workshop will take place from 10th to 14th April 2017.


Theatre Horizon is staging Eugene O'Neill's award-winning play, Beyond the Horizon from 22 to 31 March at Cattle Depot Artist Village. Theatre Horizon announced the arrival of their new Technical and Stage Management person. We would like to give thanks to all of you who applied for the job. 

Theatre Horizon is celebrating her 10th Anniversary. The costumes and props piled up over the years are now available on a 'pay what you want' basis in a Warehouse Sales held from 19 to 20 November.  You are welcome to come to a look around and to have a chat with us.

The Black and the Blue of a Man (North-east Village Edition) has come to an end despite all odds. Theatre Horizon would like to give thanks to all our patrons who had the utmost patience and all the Ping Che villagers who made the performance possible.

Owing to alleged bad weather, Theatre Horizon decided to cancel the shows on 22 and 23 October. Patrons of these two shows please contact our ticketing office (5476 4564) to change your tickets. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.  There will be two additional shows on 28 October and 4 November at 7:45pm. We will not be serving Poon Choy dinner for these two shows because of the time. Theatre Horizon's latest site-specific endeavour, The Black and the Blue of a Man (North-east Village Edition) is to be staged in Ping Che, Ta Kwu Ling on 22, 23, 29, 30 October, 5 and 6 November. Introducing Theatre Horizon's new company members, actors Lai Chai Ming and Ko Ki Yan! Welcome! The simple but special contract signing ceremony was held today at Hotel Stage.

The Battement of the Butterfly's Wings has come to an end and the teachers and students has shed some light on the methods of Theatre du Soleil in the showing. Thanks to them, 70 visitors had a wonderful evening full of laughter.

After the typhoon, Theatre Horizon is hosting the screening of L'Aventure du Theatre du Soleil, with commentary by the instructors of the theatre workshop, The Battement of the Butterfly's Wings.

The scene work showing of Our Town by the students of Theatre's Certificate Theatre Course for Youth has come to an end. The Progress Awards go to Lau Wai Yiu who portrayed George Gibbs, and Amy Cheung who played Julia Gibbs. Congratulations!

14 energetic young people from our Certificate Theatre Course for Youth are ready to put what they have learned in the past six months into a scene work sharing of Thornton Wilder's Our Town.

We are very honoured to have corresponded with the author of Dear Yelena Sergeevna, Miss Liudmila Razumovskaia who granted us performance rights to perform this wonderful play. Dear Yelena Sergeevna is the first play of the series, "Walking with Up-and-coming Directors Scheme 2015-16," with Sam Tang Ho-wai directing. Six shows are scheduled from 24 June, 2016. Nicholas Atkinson won the Distinct Actor award by the 8th Hong Kong Theatre Libre for his performance in Century-old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour, Episode II. Nightmares. Congratulations, Nick!

The nominations of the 8th Hong Kong Theatre Libre are announced. Karley Ng was nominated Outstanding Male Actor for his performance in The Garden Party (North-east Village Version) and the show was nominated Best Overall Performance. Chan Chu-hei was nominated Best Director and Nicholas Atkinson was nominated Outstanding Male Actor for Century-old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour, Episode II. Nightmares. The results will be out on 11 May, 2016.

 Our Artistic Director, Chan Chu Hei was named Best Director (Tragedy / Drama) by the 25th Hong Kong Drama Awards for his directing work in the original musical, Lazy People Are Always Busy by Windmill Grass Theatre. Shaw Mei Kwan accepted the award for him.

Century-old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour, Episode II. Nightmares opens today, putting on ten shows over ten days at Unit 12 of Cattle Depot Artist Village.








It is so cool that Makoto Matsushima is joining the cast of Century-old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour, Episode II. Nightmare, and it is a rare opportunity not to be missed to join the Makoto Matshushima's Body, Voice, Time and Space Workshop. Places are going quickly.


An audition of Theatre Horizon's major production of 2016, Century-old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour, Episode II. Nightmares, will be held soon. This is the first open audition Theatre Horizon has ever held. We are hoping to get to know more talents in acting.


Theatre Horizon is joining the 4th Hong Kong People's Fringe Festival with The Garden Party (North-east Village Version) by Vaclav Havel, ex-president of the Czech Republic. The four performances will take place in Ping Che. 


Theatre Horizon will join ADC on a trip to Seoul to participate in the Performing Arts Market Seoul (PAMS) next month.

The Battement of the Butterfly's Wings - a theatre workshop about Love, World Worskhop Series of Theatre Horizon, is about to start. The workshops will be held in the morning and will last for one whole month but this did not deter students from enrolling.

Seek and Hide is a new work of Theatre Horizon to introduce new faces in the theatre to the public. We were fortunate to have a full house in our closing night.

Mr. Toussaint of Primitive Voice Two-week Workshop arrived in Hong Kong on 17 July. He paid a visit to Horizon Art Space to have a clear idea of the venue where the workshops would take place. [Picture]
